The importance of assuring that data collection tools are both reliable and valid are explored for use in quantitative, qualitative, and mixed method study designs. Quantitative and qualitative attributes for achieving reliability and validity are provided. Discussion of when information collected and presented is not reliable and valid impacts the body of scientific knowledge and researcher credibility.
